Oedema and Lymphoedema

Symptoms of Fluid Retention

Oedema refers to the abnormal accumulation of fluid beneath the skin or in one or more cavities of the body. Lymphoedema is a condition characterised by localised fluid retention and tissue swelling caused by a compromised lymphatic system. Symptoms may include fatigue, heavy swollen limbs and discolouration of the skin.

Compression therapy can be used to support medical treatment, to help improve the diminished subfascial lymph transport, reduce lymph formation and encourage lymph drainage.
